Chocolates Reading - Rangoli

This week Chocolates Reading group read about Diwali which is the Hindu Festival of the Lights celebrated on October 30th.  Rangoli is an art form from India that is done during Diwali. Patterns are created on the floor of living rooms and courtyards using materials such as coloured rice, coloured sand and chalk. We had fun making our own Rangoli designs with chalk outside TKM!

Chocolates Reading - Cleaning up an oil spill

Today Chocolates Reading group read the journal article What a Disaster! about the Rena oil spill in 2011. We then created our own oil spill and used different methods (sponge, cornflour and cotton wool) to see which way would clean up an oil spill the best.

Who am I?

This week for news in our kete we had to write statements about an animal and everyone had to guess which animal we were describing.

Here is Chloe's description:
I am scary and I have four legs and a blue tongue. I like to eat fruit, vegetables, meat and snails. I hide under bark.

Chloe described her creature which turned out to be a real life lizard!!! Most of us had never seen a lizard before. It was very exciting.
